Applications of Freeze Crystallization
- A Thermal Retort Technologies
- Plant in operation since 2019 where Na2SO4 is recovered via cooling
- Plant is upgraded in 2024 to include separate recovery of ice, Na2SO4 and NaCl
- Innovate UK
- Demonstrate that freeze crystallization is a cost-effective alternative to evaporation for the treatment of leachate from toxic waste disposal sites
- JAR Partners, Shaoxing, China
- Demonstrate technical and economic feasibility of freeze crystallization for treatment of Na2SO4-rich effluent from the textile industry
- Flue gas desulfurization wastewater (Kusile power station)
- SO2 rich stack gas is contacted with a limestone (CaCO3) slurry to produce gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) and a saline effluent with a TDS of 50 g/L. Sulphate, chloride and boron is coming from the coal and calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium from the limestone.
- The solid gypsum can be treated with thermal treatment to recover calcium carbonate and sulphur (Thermal process)
